In 2015, the Humanities Research Institute (HRI) at the University of Illinois were awarded a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support the development of projects in “emerging areas in the humanities.” One such initiative, the HRI-Mellon Environmental Humanities Research Group, welcomed its first cohort of undergraduate, graduate, postdoctoral, and faculty collaborators in 2018 to pursue Environmental Humanities-related research projects and programming. Inspired by the setting of our University, they organized their inquiries around the theme of "Flatland." This web publication presents some of the results of their inquiries and group study.
